Richard Lynch - Supernaw

By Izzy Hawksworth

Here we have the typical country song right? Well, maybe. Richard Lynch’s Supernaw is a musical tribute to fellow American musician, Doug Supernaw, which is essentially a three and a half minute track where he pays homage to the late country star.

Richard Lynch - Supernaw

“My guitar drips country, I wish that line was mine” is the first line, already showing the admiration Richard has for Doug which flows into “it came from a conversation that a country legend left behind” - the words “country legend’ say it all, you can feel how much he really looked up to him.

In the chorus, he continues his praise by singing “a Texas guy who loves country music, he sang his songs from the heart, kept the fans in the palm of his hand” nodding his head to the love he received from his adoring fans.

If you couldn’t already tell from the lyrics, Doug Supernaw was a beloved American country music artist and Lynch’s commonplace country tune certainly embodies the inspiration behind the song.

But, is the instrumentation too heavily influenced by his admiration for Doug? Has Richard lost his signature sound, almost trying to be the next Doug Supernaw? This could be a possibility as they both have incredibly similar sounding voices, however their individual sounds could inevitably just be run of the mill country tracks.

Supernaw is a great dedication to Doug, who passed away in November 2020, and it will forever remind fans of Doug’s legacy in the country music world.
