Debuting in 21 countries across the world, Forever reached number one in the Ghanaian charts. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Forever (Remix) has had a response of the same caliber, amassing an impressive 2.8 million views on Youtube at the time of writing this article.

The music video, shot in Nigeria, shows Gyakie in her performative element; she delivers a stunning performance, bringing the content of her lyrics to life through acting and dance. The chemistry between the two artists is convincing, and the collaboration doesn’t seem in any way forced, which is something I think many collaborations today fall victim to. The video is brought to life by director Dammy Twitch, whose expert cinematography enriches Gyakies performance, and really makes the entire video.

For a remix, Forever (Remix) is incredibly similar to the original; with only Omah Lay’s performance being the noticeable difference. On one hand, I feel as though Gyakie and her producers could have seized this opportunity to explore different timbral qualities, or implement a slight change in the underlying rhythm or drumbeat. On the other hand, the original was so great, and it performed so well, why change it? If the fans love it, and it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Regardless of opinion, this remix was a great move for Gyakie. Now tapping into Omah Lay’s fanbase, her burgeoning presence in Africa, and across the whole world, will only continue to grow. I’m particularly impressed that Gyakie is achieving all of this while also finishing her degree in international business, and I’m sure the networking skills she’s learned from her degree have contributed to her global success. With no intentions of putting the brakes on any time soon, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that in the not-so-far future, Gyakie will become a household name.
