Five Days North - Colours in my Mind

Five Days North - Colours in my Mind

Released in time for the hopeful summer that awaits us, Five Days North are first to the scene in releasing an anthemic seasonal track. Over the past five years, each release has seen the band polish their synth-pop sound to a higher level each time, and Colours (In My Mind) is without a doubt their strongest release yet.

When it comes to synth-pop, it’s easy to fall into the safer boundaries of the genre or take a little too much influence from its retro pioneers, but for me personally, the balance that Five Days North hold in their recent style is faultless.

Straight from the first few bars, the electric atmosphere already has you tapping your foot and is crying out to be heard in a live setting. The fierce hooks and ‘80s pop-power behind the choruses adds the distinct drive to Colours (In My Mind), with each section hitting as just as strong as the first listen. Typically, with attractive pop melodies, the catchy novelty wears off by the last chorus, but I found myself still happily humming the chorus lines a good hour after my first listen.

There’s nothing undesirable in Colours (In My Mind) that I can pull the band up on- it’s an impressive, uplifting summery track that we are all in desperate need of right now. The optimistic air the music radiates is something the band have crafted seriously well, and I for one cannot wait to dance along to this live!
