FaB – A Toy for Juliette

By Izzy Hawksworth

Just as the album name, ‘The Wicked Pantomime’, suggests, ‘A Toy for Juliette’, is something straight out of an alternative pantomime - think fairy-tale musical meets the 1950s.

FaB – A Toy for Juliette

The power of endearing vocals and a powerful guitar influences the beat of the music, creating an old school track that completely hooks you. Before you know it, you’ll be obsessed with ‘A Toy for Juliette’ as well as the rest of the album.

The Bowie-meets-The-Beatles themed chorus almost sympathetically lectures Juliette singing, “Juliette don’t forget, he was not your toy”, later continuing with “Juliette you should’ve seen the signs”. It’s as if the song isn’t just a message to Juliette, but anyone who is ignoring red flags - the retro sounding tune nicely juxtaposes this message.

The niche sound of FaB engraves itself into your brain after the first play and their unique sound is perfect if you want to blend you love of musicals and Bowie together as one.

After a year hiatus, FaB have done well to create something so admirable whilst simultaneously falling into the category of easy listening. It’s a strong comeback song and creates a high level of anticipation in seeing what else they will produce.
